Green Orange – Fall 2020

Updated: Dec 10, 2020

This upcoming Wednesday – December 9th at 4 PM PST – is the University of Redlands' Composition Studio's Concert Series, Green Orange. I am so excited to hear the music of my peers, and the lemonade (or I guess green orange juice?) we have made out of the many lemons life has handed us these past few months. With thirteen premieres of new music, this is a concert you do not want to miss!

I am especially excited for the premiere of my piece, Prayer in Times of Illness. However, with this excitement also comes a sense of loss. I had written this piece over the summer, around when the US reached 100,000 deaths from COVID-19. Now with over 280,000 deaths with no sense of slowing, there is even more grief within this song. With so much death, anxiety, and distress, comes the need for restoration, comfort, and solace. Prayer in Times of Ilness was written not only as an appeal to a higher power, for relief and mercy, but as an anthem to those we have lost. May their memories be eternal.

A huge thank you to the wonderful performers of this piece: Anna Caplan, Nicole Martin, Bailey Sako, Maddie Schmid, Armando Reyes, Jamison Stevens, and Connor Licharz. I am so grateful to know this wonderful group of humans who wanted to learn and record my piece. It was truly an honor to work with all of you.

I would greatly appreciate if you attended the concert. The concert can be viewed at 4 PM PST on December 9th through this link: https://vimeo.com/event/492214

Update: If you weren't able to make the concert, here is a link to my piece on YouTube – https://youtu.be/LwzVStJLD2E
